I was in the 8th grade having to decide what high school to go to, I had the choices between Ventura High School and Foothill Technology High School. My boundary school was zoned for Ventura, but I chose to go to Foothill instead, without my parents even knowing what great opportunity I could have going to Foothill. The most important thing to me about high school at the time was the understanding of my education. Another was knowing people and not going through high school alone. Most of my friends that were my age were going to Ventura, while the other was going to Foothill, but my friends were all in their sophomore, junior year there, so I would have no friends in my freshmen classes at Foothill.
I was in the area zone of Ventura High School, I had went to their orientation and I was scared to see that there was tons of rows of lockers, meaning we would have go get our stuff everyday during the change in our class periods getting our books, it being a hassle.Their auditorium was really sketchy looking, their seats look as if someone just ripped the chairs. A couple weeks later I had shadowed my friend Rachel Link that was a freshman at the time, at Foothill Technology High School and I was blown away. I wanted to go to Foothill, the campus was nice and clean, the students seemed very nice, and so did the staff that worked there. It was a very welcoming school to me, not a scary image of high school that you see in movies.
Yes, I had looked at the Foothill website to see their classes that freshmen had to take, and their electives really appealed to my liking. They had art, which looked like a very fun class to take. Most importantly they had drama, which I've been wanting to try for a while. I would say Foothill has a very good curriculum choice of options for the students.
Yes, I had thought it through, a lot, do I really want to tackle this prep college high school? Yes, I thought to myself, because it would make me a stronger person than I already am, it's good to challenge yourself!
My heart told me this would be the best opportunity for me, for my mind to grow of many opportunities they had to offer at Foothill. I just knew I was destine to go to this school for many reasons which I had no clue of yet.
My head told me this is going to be the hardest thing in the world, and you can't do it..I doubted myself, when I should have been thinking, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO. All I thought about was so much homework that would be givin to us each week and even on the weekends. The thought of struggling behind. But in the end I would think to myself, now I'm ready to tackle so much more, because the other stuff was easy and I did it! I had doubts at first and just thought of the long term, and I really can do this. Sure it's going to be hard at first, but it eventually gets easy.
I decided , Foothill Technology High School, I want to become a dragon! So bring it on!
